Dishley Scouts by "b0sun" We have just been to Johns Lee Wood for our group camp. It rained a lot but mainly when we were under cover. We built a camp gateway with the cubs, cooked our meals over the open fire, hiked 4 miles, played wide games, went round the caving experience and were interupted in our Scouts Own by the DC Colin. We fed him sandwiches and sent him on his way. We've all returned from our Summer holidays and we've been to the Splash Camp at Leicester where we played on the water with canoes, sailing boats, rafts, bellboats, and lots more. We are planning to do the Mechanics Badge very soon, when the mechanic is available. We have planned a Halloween Party for the cubs and beavers to enjoy on 2nd November. We will be dressing up and playing party games. We thoroughly enjoyed the Halloween party with the Scouts organising the group and running games, including apple bobbing, and prizes were awarded for the best fancy dress. We've seen some very scary vampires and zombies this year. We have planned and walked a night hike from Loughborough to Shepshed chip shop with the aid of Mark, who showed us how to fill in route cards and take bearings and get safely from A to B. If you want to get to B from A that is... This last activity came in very handy when we entered the Scougi Night Hike in February and won the Trophy. Very handsome it is. The Scouts had to complete various tasks from eating biscuits to first aid and complete the hike in the drizzle too. Well done to the team. We are planning to go on 3 weekend camps this year, so the practice starts now. How to plan menus, pitch tents and cook safely. We experimented with cola and mints to make a fountain last week and this week we will try to make a larger one using more cola and more mints. We're also planning the balloon rocket race too.
